New Social Work Database Trials

The library has started trial subscriptions to two new databases: SocINDEX and Social Work Reference Center. Students and other member of the Goodwin community will be able to access both databases for the next month. Try them out and let us know what you think!

SocINDEX with Full Text

This database is the world’s most comprehensive and highest-quality sociology research database. Its extensive scope and content provide users with a wealth of extremely useful information encompassing the broad spectrum of sociological study. The database features millions of records with subject headings from a sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers.

Social Work Reference Center

Created by a multi-specialty editorial team, Social Work Reference Center covers a wide array of topics such as adolescent health, aging, end-of-life care, clinical social work, and diversity. Content is organized in a way that makes it easy for users to get answers to questions quickly and easily.

Learning to Live without Gale Databases

We at the HFL have chosen to not renew our subscription to the research databases provided by Gale/Cenage Learning. This mean that starting on Tuesday, the 1st of July, some of the research databases will no longer be available. Members of the Goodwin community have told us that they rely on some of these resources. We in the library believe that with a few minor adjustment they will come to find that other resources are just as useful, if not more so. To help make the transition as smooth as possible, here’s a list of the databases that are going away paired with some suggested alternatives.
